Words cannot begin to express the gratitude for all the support and encouragement our crew has received throughout these last 9 months! This training has taught me more about myself and my community than I can ever repay back to everyone. As I write the following words, I am opening myself up to you more than I have through this journey. I'm nervous and scared but this is my 4th marathon and, likely, my last. My motto when I signed up was"Go big and go home!"
As I'm 6 weeks away, I'm reflecting back to where we started and where we are now. The training has giving me hours with my best friends, which are moments I will cherish for the rest of my life. We've seen beautiful sunrises and amazing pink sunsets, battled the excessive summer heat and been drenched in rain (wet dog is not the best smell- haha)! I've gotten to know my neighbors and community more- people have stopped us just to talk about dogs! Although some neighbors think I've gone crazy after the 11th turn around the block --! Finally, I learned to actually stop after the runs and just pray for the blessing of being able to do what I do and those around me... this is bigger than us!
I'm asking my community to help in this final leg of the journey. The countdown is officially on and the "deadline" for the ASPCA is October 15. The date is very appropriate given it coincides with our training "peak week." Despite putting in hundreds of miles, that week we will running more than ever.
With so much going in the world and all the help that is needed, the ASPCA is one organization that is helping families. They are helping reunite families with their pets, rescuing and transporting animals to emergency shelters in other states, and now Puerto Rico, as well, sadly. This summer has been a rough one for many people.
I am attaching some of our recent picture updates. Finally, I ask kindly to consider helping the ASPCA and support Egon and Rae as ambassadors for the cause.
I am attaching our story from the beginning!
From the bottom of our hearts and paws, thank you tremendously for all the donations and well-wishes. 6 more weeks left and in true Egon and Rae style, we will not stop!
For those that want to read a little about our journey to New York, we were featured on a dog running blog to spread the word!
