Mark's Campaign for Animals Like Krypto
Thank you for visiting my Team ASPCA fundraising page! I created this page to celebrate the rock star pet in my life, Krypto.
I found Krypto on Craigslist while looking for a companion dog that needed a good home. He was one year old at the time. I called and spoke with the lady who made the posting and arranged a time to come and meet Krypto. Upone arriving, I met with the woman outside of her home and she shared the following backstory with me:
Krypto began his life in a shelter, and was rescued just prior to being put down. In the household was the mother, father, a one year old at the time, and an adult pooch. They found out shortly after adopting Krypto that they were expecting their second child.
The mom, being a pet trainer and sitter by trade, worked with Krypto to teach him some basic training, but life soon proved to be too busy with the arrival of their second child, and she found herself unable to provide Krypto the time and attention he derserved. Krypto fell to the wayside as can happen when a family suddenly finds a toddler and a baby to take care of, and at times, the mother reported that the father tended to express his anger with Krypto in "inappropriate ways". For an example, when trying to keep from going into his crate one day (as he was still frightened of it), Krypto ran and hid under the bed. When he was then pulled from under the bed by his front leg he bit the father. Krypto was then punished for the father's stupidity in an "inappropriate way".
As soon as I walked into the home, Krypto ran up to me and sniffed and licked me from the arm of the couch. The mom was surprised, as she reported Krypto was normally skittish around new people.
When I was getting ready to take Krypto home, the mother told me as a warning that he wasn't what you would call a "cuddly" dog, not to brush his hind quarters or touch his ears and paws, and he was very strong willed. I started to wonder if he was the right dog for me, but when she walked him out to my car on his leash, he happily jumped in and sat wagging his tail and smiling on my passenger seat. I knew at that moment that he was the dog for me ;)
I found the mother's warning to be true, however, over the next few months, but I also found that Krypto is a very smart, loving, and strong willed dog. At first, he was very agressive when being brushed once the brush crossed his mid-back, and when anyone would attempt to touch his ears or paws. He truly wasn't a very cuddly dog, but he did like to sit next to you on the couch, or lie at the foot of bed while you slept.
Through continued work, time, and LOTS of love from my Granmother, Mother, and I (My grandmother "babysat" him each day while I was at work and my Mother spent lots of time loving and playing with him), Krypto grew into an INCREDIBLY cuddly dog and over the next few months even became quite the fan of having his ears rubbed and would quietly lay there while being brushed. He absolutely LOVES meeting new people and lays right next to me during the night, always making sure a paw or his back is touching me while we sleep.
Krypto has become my best friend and I couldn't imagine not having him with me. However, not all animals are as fortunate to have a loving home or people willing to make the extra effort to help them to work past their fears or past traumas. It breaks my heart to think of all the animals that never get to experience the love and companionship Krypto receives.
Your donation will help the ASPCA provide life-saving programs and services to millions of animals nationwide. The ASPCA is very important to me and I appreciate your help as we fight to give abused and homeless animals a second chance at life. Please join me in celebrating the rock star pet in my life by making a donation and help me make a positive impact in the lives of animals! Thank you!
About the ASPCA: Fighting for animals is a 24/7 job, but your commitment makes it possible for our life-saving programs to create happy endings for those innocent lives touched by cruelty. Every single day of the year, we are rescuing animals from neglect and suffering. With your support, we are able to rescue animals from dog fighting, cockfighting, and puppy mills, work to end animal homelessness and farm animal cruelty, and provide medical care for countless pets in need. Please help us save even more animals and donate to this Team ASPCA campaign today.
