Jen's 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend- The Dumbo Double Dare Challenge!!!

Millie. That's how it all started for me.

I never had a dog growing up. I had bunnies, gerbils and hamsters, but never a dog. Then I met my husband and he wanted a dog. I had no clue how to take care for a dog. I thought, 'Wow that seems like a lot of work,' (Sidenote- we now have a kid, having a dog is a cake walk). We knew we wanted to rescue one. So one day, we headed to the kill shelter in Orlando to look for our new family member. We walked past kennels and kennels full of dogs and puppies. Then we came to a kennel that held one little dog, a brown mutt so shy and in the corner. They brought her to us and she was so emaciated and lethargic. We took this little 9 month dog on a little walk and it just exhausted her. I was afraid she wouldn't make there much longer. Who would want her? She had already been returned a few times and was found on the side of the road. We had to take Lil Mama home. Thank goodness we renamed her Millie huh?

That was almost 10 years ago and since then we have rescued another dog named Herbie and added a two legged member to the family. My eyes have been furthered opened during volunteering. To see the horrors these innocent animals go through or the ridiculous breed restrictions just make me want to help them in any way I can and you can to! Help me raise some funds to help the ASPCA continue to do their work in helping those animals do not have a voice.

On September 5-6, 2015 I will be participating in the 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend as a member of Team ASPCA, a national fundraising and endurance training program. I am excited to be participating as a member of Team ASPCA and honored to be raising the awareness and the much needed funding to support the ASPCA's programs. Your donation will help the ASPCA provide life-saving programs and services to millions of animals nationwide. The ASPCA is very important to me and I appreciate your help as we fight to give abused and homeless animals a second chance at life. Please support me by making a donation and help me make a positive impact in the lives of animals! Thank you!

Or if you don't feel comfortable donating to this, go out and donate to your local shelter, volunteer for a day, be a foster for a rescue or best thing yet RESCUE YOUR NEXT PET!!!  Go to a shelter, and you will see the rows and rows of animals who all have a story to tell and just need a second chance. Go out and find your 'Millie'.

Thank you Millie, for rescuing us!

About the ASPCA: Fighting for animals is a 24/7 job, but your commitment makes it possible for our life-saving programs to create happy endings for those innocent lives touched by cruelty. Every single day of the year, we are rescuing animals from neglect and suffering. With your support, we are able to rescue animals from dog fighting, cockfighting, and puppy mills, work to end animal homelessness and farm animal cruelty, and provide medical care for countless pets in need. Please help us save even more animals and donate to this Team ASPCA campaign today.
