Garfield and Maia's Fundraiser
Thank you for visiting our Team ASPCA fundraising page! We created this page to celebrate the rock star pets in our life, Garfield and Maia. But not all animals are as fortunate to have a loving home.
Your donation will help the ASPCA provide life-saving programs and services to millions of animals nationwide. The ASPCA is very important to us and we appreciate your help as we fight to give abused and homeless animals a second chance at life.
Our Pets-
Garfield is 12 years old. He is a mute old man with a big heart. He likes to go outside but always returns home for lots of love and lasagna.
"I was 6 years-old when my mother took me to get a pet. This was shortly after my grandfather passed away. My grandfather was my best friend and there was such a huge feeling of something missing in my life since he died. He was my companion and he was my favorite person. My grandfather never let me get a cat, even though I really wanted one, because he was allergic to them. My mom figured that getting me a pet would help me feel less lonely. My mom took me to the local ASPCA shelter and walked with me as we looked at the different animals there. None of the animals were speaking out to me. In fact, a lot of them were actually being mean and hissing. I was losing hope that I was going to get a pet that day and my mom told me that we would have to come back. I was devastated and asked that we could keep looking. My mom went to talk to the people working there while I went into a room that had a bunch of cat toys and cats playing freely. I sat down in the middle of this room and watched the cats when this cat came right up into my lap and fell asleep. That cat was Garfield. He was already 2 years old and he wasn’t even ready to be adopted yet because his paperwork wasn’t done, but I knew that he had to be mine since he chose me. My mom worked some magic somehow and got the employees to let me adopt him even though he wasn’t completely ready. He was named Garfield when we got him and didn’t decide to change it because it suited him really well." ~ Linda
Maia is just under a year old. She is very energetic and lovable. But don't let that fool you, she has a temper.
"Garfield has been my cat for 11 years now. He’s still exactly the same as he was when I first got him. Although, he wasn’t as playful as he used to be. He liked to be more lazy and he started gaining a bit more weight. He wasn’t obese or anything, but I figured he would be happier and more active if he had a friend. He loved looking out the window at strays and I figured he would love a sister. (I figured I would get a girl cat so it wouldn’t threaten Garfield’s manhood.) My aunt took me to that same ASPCA shelter, but they were closed that day. I was so disappointed because I had my heart set on getting a new addition to the family. However, we did not give up. We decided to drive an hour to another ASPCA shelter that was located in the mall. Maia was sitting right in her little cage and she was so tiny! I never had a kitten before, but I really wanted to have one of my own so I could help her grow and learn how to be a cat. She meowed at me until I started playing with her and I think that was her way of choosing me too. Even though Garfield struggled with his territory with some other strays he took to Maia a lot quicker than I imagined. He took her under his wing and taught her the ways of the Garfield. They would fight a little, but they would never hurt each other. Now they play tag and Garfield loves to sit by her and groom her. Maia was the perfect addition to the family and she helps Garfield be the best cat he can be." ~ Linda
About Us (Talor and Linda)-
We are two best friends that love our pets! We hate to see strays outside especially in the harsh weather conditions, but there's not much we can do. Trust me if we could take in every one of them we would. We leave out food, water, and shelters for the stray cats.
“There has been many times where I would see a stray whether it be a dog or cat. Most of the cats are quick and I can’t get them, but just over the past summer I’ve rescued seven dogs from the streets with the help of some family and friends. I even burned the bottoms of my feet when running along the side of a highway to help two dogs before they got hit by a car. There was a lady that lived across the street who claimed she owned a stray cat, however it was there before she moved in. She neglected it during the colder seasons and I would have to take action and feed it, that’s when I saw it had a tumor on its back. Right away I called the ASPCA to take the cat into better care. I had to do what was best for the animal not the ‘owner’. It is very hard to see these animals abandoned. It doesn’t matter if it is a cat, dog, turtle, etc. If there is an animal in need of help I will be there to do what I can and hopefully find it a new home. That is my goal for this fundraiser, to raise money for the homeless animals that are locked away, along with the ones that need medical attention. Anything counts.” ~ Talor

“I have always loved animals,I would do anything to help them. There have been numerous times in my life where I’ve helped strays and other animals who were in need. I leave food outside for the stray cats that roam around my town and I put some boxes with towels outside for them during the winter. I can’t stand to see animals upset or suffering and I want to do everything to help them. I even became vegan to do my part in ending animal suffering. I hope this fundraiser can help animals in need and get them to good, loving homes.” ~ Linda
