Biking for Joey
On May 7, 2017, I will be participating in the 2017 TD Five Boro Bike Tour as a member of Team ASPCA, a national fundraising and endurance training program that raises awareness and much needed funding to support the ASPCA's programs.
When I was 10 years old I convinced my parents to take me to the ASPCA where I met Joey, an adorable black lab puppy with floppy ears and curly, bushy tail, who had been abandoned in the woods by his previous owners. Because of the trauma of this experience Joey had developed extreme anxiety issues, and due to a lack of training he was insane - and I mean a total lunatic of a puppy. Nevertheless, as love at first sight often goes, none of that mattered to me. We took him home and he quickly became my closest companion through the formative years of my life, until he passed away in July 2015. Throughout his life I watched my energetic puppy morph into a loving member of our family. He never lost his wild side, but the anxious edge wore off as he settled into our home. In turn, he protected our land like it was his kingdom, and he never left our sides, providing us infitite smiles and laughs with his engaging personality and quirky habits. His presence has been sorely missed ever since he passed away, but I feel forever grateful for the gift that Joey was to my life.
This is my ASPCA story and in Joey's memory I am biking to support the very institution that brought us together.
Knowing many of you have similar stories of finding your canine (or feline!) companion through the ASPCA, or similar organization, I ask you to support my ride as I bike for all of our beloved four-legged friends. Your donation will help the ASPCA provide life-saving programs and services to millions of animals nationwide. Please support me by making a donation and help me make a positive impact in the lives of animals. Thank you!
About the ASPCA: Fighting for animals is a 24/7 job, but your commitment makes it possible for our life-saving programs to create happy endings for those innocent lives touched by cruelty. Every single day of the year, we are rescuing animals from neglect and suffering. With your support, we are able to rescue animals from cruelty, work to end animal homelessness and provide medical care for countless pets in need. Please help us save even more animals and donate to this Team ASPCA campaign today. Interested in joining the team? Learn More »
