In Memory of Arthur & Flash
Thank you for visiting Arthur & Flash's memorial page. Your donation will help the ASPCA provide life-saving programs and services to millions of animals nationwide. Please join me in celebrating their lives and pay tribute by making a donation to give abused and homeless animals a second chance at life.
Arthur was one of these fortunate dogs. The start of his life was anything but easy. We believe he was abused before he was either let loose on the streets of the Upper East Side or dumped. He was hit by a car and - at just an estimated 4 months old - was severely injured. A good Samaritan found him and took him to the ASPCA headquarters. They named him Arthur.
He endured multiple surgeries and spent the next two months being rehabilitated and learning some basic commands before he was even ready to be adopted. It was another three months before we met him on March 16th, 2001. We adopted him the following morning. His name suited him, so we kept it.
Arthur was a gorgeous collie mix. We'd get stopped by strangers on the streets of NYC all the time just so they could tell us how beautiful our dog was. He was shy, neurotic and utterly brilliant. Arthur had wanderlust like ours... he loved the car and traveling more than anything else, except us - and especially my husband.
When we moved to Colorado we wanted Arthur to have a pal. So we adopted Flash from a PetsMart adoption event, where he "represented" the Colorado Humane Society with the unfortunate name Heffalump. We rescued him from his pen and that name!
Flash was mostly basset hound, mixed with Australian cattledog and American Eskimo. We were fortunately able to have him DNA tested. He was empathetic, sweet, loving and so stubborn. His feisty, independent spirit was something I always admired, even when he was being a little devil dog.
Every year since we adopted Arthur I have donated to the ASPCA. We had to say goodbye to sweet, regal Arthur the Wonder Dog in 2010 and we just said goodbye to our sweet, wonderful Flashdog at the start of 2018.
Flashy's birthday was March 16th, 2015 (18 months to the day before we adopted him, as that was his estimated age). It just happened to be the 4th anniversary of when we met Arthur. So my goal is to raise $316 in honor of that date.
If you can help, please consider it. I want other animals to have the chance to be protected, cherished, loved, rescued, reunited with loved ones, saved... and I want other people to have the chance to be saved by these animals in return.
About the ASPCA: Fighting for animals is a 24/7 job, but your commitment makes it possible for our life-saving programs to create happy endings for those innocent lives touched by cruelty. Every single day of the year, we are rescuing animals from neglect and suffering. With your support, we are able to rescue animals from dog fighting, cockfighting, and puppy mills, work to end animal homelessness and farm animal cruelty, and provide medical care for countless pets in need. Please help us save even more animals and donate to this Team ASPCA campaign today.
