Odin's Memorial Campaign

Thank you for visiting Odin's memorial page. Your donation will help the ASPCA provide life-saving programs and services to millions of animals nationwide. Please join Odin's family in celebrating his life and pay tribute by making a donation to give abused and homeless animals a second chance at life.

We recently got access to this fundraising page (thanks dad for starting it). I wanted to add a bit about Odin, but I know we could go on and on about him. A little background on how we got here: We went out for a camping trip for a weekend and when we got home, we knew SOMETHING was wrong, but we could not figure out what. After about two months of unsuccessful vet appointments, we finally received a diagnosis of a fungal infection called aspergillosis. This is a common fungus, around us everyday, unfortunately it got into Odin's spinal column, and from there had spread into other parts of his body. The fungus is common, but unfortunately the infection and spread is rare, which is why is took so long to get a diagnosis (disseminated invasive aspergillosis).

After a lot of research, debates, and soul searching, we decided that we couldn't let him suffer anymore. He was good at hiding his pain in public, but as soon as we got home, he would basically break down. We could not imagine forcing him to live with the pain he was in any longer, and the even the treatment had a poor prognosis and more terrible side effects than benefits. We spoiled him rotten (I don't think he ate a single piece of dog food, just steak and other goodies), and then he left us underneath his favorite tree in his backyard. He stayed strong until the end, but now he can rest easy.

His life was shorter than it was supposed to be, that's for sure, but we made sure that every minute of it was full of love and adventures (and squirrels when possible). He was our golden dog. He knew what we were asking of him without us saying a word. He loved us with all his heart and we loved him with ours.

About the ASPCA: Fighting for animals is a 24/7 job, but your commitment makes it possible for our life-saving programs to create happy endings for those innocent lives touched by cruelty. Every single day of the year, we are rescuing animals from neglect and suffering. With your support, we are able to rescue animals from dog fighting, cockfighting, and puppy mills, work to end animal homelessness and farm animal cruelty, and provide medical care for countless pets in need. Please help us save even more animals and donate to this Team ASPCA campaign today.
