How to Reduce Your Dog's Ecological Paw-Print
“We do not realize the true worth of something until it is taken away from us.”
Isn’t this true for our generation? Today, everyone is so ‘woke’ about conserving natural resources. It has become the need of the hour to efficiently and carefully utilize our resources, because evidently, they will deplete sooner or later. If we, as inhabitants of Mother Earth, do not do anything to protect it now, we have no right to regret later when the Earth is destroyed.
So, people, here are a few questions for you to reflect on.
- Do you carry your own paper bags while going shopping?
- Do you refrain from using plastic products?
- Do you board the bus instead of your personal vehicle?
- Do use try to reuse paper whenever possible?
- Do you cut down on your shower time to save water?
If you had a big fat ‘YES’ for all or most of the questions, then congratulations! You’ve gone all green! Yay!
But have you ever thought about how your dog can go green too? The effect that your dog has on its environment is called its ‘Ecological Paw Print’. It incorporates the total amount of resources that your pet requires from the nature for its survival.
Today, when we all are striving to achieve sustainable development (i.e. trying to meet our own needs without hampering the needs of our future generations), it has become extremely important to keep in check that all the living creatures align with that goal too. For that very reason, we must try to reduce our pet’s ecological paw-print as much as possible. So, how can we make sure that our little doggo goes green too? Check out Dog Wash machine products some easy and effective solutions below:
- Use Nature Friendly Products
The first and most important thing that you need to ensure is that you buy eco-friendly products for your dog. Those shampoos and cleaners that you apply on them have chemicals that can irritate their skin and damage their fur as well. So, a better option would be to buy bathing products that are anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and consume less amount of water. You can also drop those paper towels, and switch to reusable rags and clothes.
- DIY Cleansers
While shopping for your dog, make sure the products contain natural ingredients like vinegar, lemon, water, hydrogen peroxide, baking soda etc. If you are really into home-made stuff, here’s one good option I have for you.
- Bring Vinegar and Water.
- Mix them together in equal parts.
- Pour them into a spray bottle.
Tadaaa! Your all-purpose cleanser is ready to use. Trust me, it’s very effective.
- Dog Poop and Composting
Do you know that your dog’s poop can be very harmful if left out in the open? It can be dangerous for other organisms, and can even make animals ill. To make sure this does not happen, you can flush your dog’s excreta down the toilet. Reusable and washable dog-poop bags are available in markets, and can be come in very handy. Composting might also be a nature friendly option.
- Buy Durable and Earth-Friendly Products
While buying products for your pet, always make sure to buy things that last long and do not need to be changed frequently. Also, keep an eye out for the brands that produce eco-friendly products. For example- grooming products, hand woven leashes and collars, dog toys and other apparels, all made out of organic sources should be highly preferred.
- Adhere to the 3 R’s
Today, the three magic words that you need to repeat to yourself are the 3 R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. But how can you implement these on your pet? Check out the following points.
- Wash and donate your dog’s used blankets, bed, toys, towels etc. to the charity or to your acquaintances.
- You might consider getting your dog neutered so as to reduce the cause of over population.
- Keep a check on what food scraps you can feed your dog. E.g. Veggies and fruit peels etc. have a lot of nutrition in them.
- Also check if your vet has an option to ‘go paperless’, so as to save trees and ultimately save environment.
- While shopping at the pet store, make sure to bring your own bags and reuse them as and when possible.
So, these are some of the ways that you can practice to ensure that your pet contributes equally towards a sustainable growth, and does not put much strain on the environment. Let’s play our part, where Doggos and Humans come together to save Mother Earth! Let’s all go green together!
