Don’t Let the USDA Keep Animals Barred From Love

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is the federal agency responsible for licensing certain animal businesses—like zoos, research institutions and commercial pet breeders—and inspecting them to make sure they comply with Animal Welfare Act (AWA) standards.

These standards leave a lot of room for dogs to be severely mistreated. For example, a dog can be kept for his entire life in a tiny, wire-floored cage that’s stacked upon other cages. Female dogs can be bred at every opportunity, churning out litter after litter of puppies with no time to rest and recover.

The USDA rarely takes any action against licensees. Facilities with sick, neglected or injured animals stay in business year after year, even though they are breaking the law.

The USDA is failing vulnerable animals and keeping them Barred From Love. Sign this petition if you feel the USDA should step up and truly protect the animals under its oversight.
