OR S.B. 80 — Pause Expansion of Factory Farms

Update — April 8, 2025: Despite overwhelming public support, this bill did not receive the votes it needed to advance this year. With your help, we will continue the fight to protect local communities from the expansion of factory farms during future legislative sessions.

This year, lawmakers in Oregon considered a bill that would have paused the construction or expansion of factory farms in the most environmentally at-risk areas of the state. This critical moratorium would prevent further water pollution and protect farm animals from some of the most heinous forms of animal cruelty.

Large factory farms are moving into Oregon, and they are harming the state and its communities. On top of housing tens of thousands of animals in cruel conditions, factory farms intensify climate change, disregard the welfare of workers and push smaller-scale family farms out of business. Tell your state senator: These harmful operations don’t belong anywhere, especially not in Oregon.

As a resident of Oregon and your constituent, I am reaching out to ask you to support S.B. 80 and protect our waters from mega-factory farms in Oregon.

Industrial-sized Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) are harming Oregon’s animals, people and environment. They cause immense animal suffering, pollute the water and air, contribute to climate change and push smaller, independent farms out of business.

I urge you to work toward an Oregon that prioritizes higher-welfare farming and resilient rural communities by reining in harmful factory farms.

S.B. 80 would halt any new construction or expansion of factory farms in the most at-risk areas of our state until Oregon’s leaders act to protect farm animals, our environment and our communities.

Please support S.B. 80 in the 2025 legislative session to protect Oregon’s future and improve the welfare of farmed animals.
