The Food Security and Farm Protection Act is a dangerous bill that was just introduced in the U.S. Senate. Despite its new name, this bill is identical to the dangerous Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act from last Congress. Please urge your federal lawmakers to oppose this bill.
While its supporters in Congress and industrial agriculture interests claim this legislation will protect farmers and food security, its real goal is to erase existing animal welfare laws and perpetuate the inhumane practices on factory farms. Like the EATS Act before it, the Food Security and Farm Protection Act is a direct response to the success of animal welfare bills like California’s Proposition 12, which was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. Existing state and local bans on cruel farming practices — including gestation crates for pigs, battery cages for egg-laying hens and veal crates for calves — could be undone if this bill passes. Additionally, good laws related to food safety, farm worker protections and environmental standards may be at risk.
We cannot roll back progress and allow animals to suffer.
