U.S. H.R. 4417/S. 2019—Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act
ASPCA Position: Oppose
Sponsors: Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) and Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS)

Help defeat the EATS Act! Please email your members of Congress today and urge them to oppose this dangerous bill.

At the behest of Big Ag, lawmakers introduced the Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act in June and are pushing for its inclusion in the 2023 Farm Bill. Its sponsors and industrial agriculture interests claim the EATS Act “protects agricultural trade,” but the truth is that this bill would hurt America’s independent farmers. The EATS Act would erase existing state and local agricultural regulations—all to maintain Big Ag’s control in the marketplace.

The EATS Act threatens more than 1,000 laws across all 50 states, including laws that govern food procurement and help local, independent farmers employ higher-welfare and more sustainable practices. This deceptive bill exists to increase the profits of a handful of agribusiness corporations, not hardworking independent farmers.
