Thank You for Leading the SAFE Act to Ban Horse Slaughter!
Dear Legislator,
As your constituent and a supporter of equine welfare, I want to thank you for leading the Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act (H.R. 1661/S. 775), which would permanently end the slaughter of American horses for human consumption. I was devastated to read the latest New York Times article exposing how hundreds — perhaps thousands — of wild horses are being funneled into the slaughter pipeline. No horse, wild or domestic, is safe until Congress passes a federal horse slaughter ban. I urge you to do everything you can to pass such a ban, including by supporting the provision in the BUILD America 250 Act (H.R. 8870) that would ban the transportation of horses to slaughter. Animal protection is a priority for me, and I appreciate you taking a stand on such an important issue. We need to end this cruelty once and for all.
Thanks and Urgent Request on Horse Slaughter
Dear Legislator,
As your constituent and a supporter of equine welfare, I want to thank you for being an original cosponsor of the Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act (H.R. 1661/S. 775), which would permanently end the slaughter of American horses for human consumption. I was devastated to read the latest New York Times article exposing how hundreds — perhaps thousands — of wild horses are being funneled into the slaughter pipeline. I urge you to do everything you can to pass such a ban, including by supporting the provision in the BUILD America 250 Act (H.R. 8870) that would ban the transportation of horses to slaughter. If there is an amendment to strip this language out on the House floor, I urge you to vote “nay.” Animal protection is a priority for me, and I appreciate you taking a stand on such an important issue. We need to end this cruelty once and for all.

Dear Legislator,
As your constituent and a supporter of equine welfare, I want to thank you for cosponsoring the Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act (H.R. 1661/S. 775), which would permanently end the slaughter of American horses for human consumption. Please End Horse Slaughter
Dear Legislator,
As your constituent and a supporter of equine welfare, I am writing to urge you to support legislation that would permanently end the slaughter of American horses. I was devastated to read the recent New York Times article exposing how hundreds — perhaps thousands — of wild horses are being funneled into the slaughter pipeline. Horse slaughter is an inherently cruel and unnecessary practice that 83% of Americans oppose. No horse, wild or domestic, is safe until Congress passes a federal horse slaughter ban.
Horses have not been slaughtered legally in the U.S. for human consumption since 2007 thanks to Congressional action to prohibit taxpayer dollars from propping up this industry. Yet tens of thousands of horses continue to be exported to Canada and Mexico for slaughter each year, when we could find new homes for them in the U.S. or provide them with compassionate euthanasia if that is what is necessary. We need a federal ban on horse slaughter to put an end to this shameful chapter of American history.
Please cosponsor the Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act (H.R. 1661 / S. 775) and support inclusion of a federal horse slaughter ban in upcoming must-pass legislation, including by supporting the provision in the BUILD America 250 Act that would ban the transportation of horses to slaughter.
