As your constituent, I thank you for your sponsorship of H.B. 26-1011, the bill to end the puppy mill pipeline in Colorado. I am grateful for your leadership on this important bill that will help protect animals and Colorado consumers. Puppies sold by third party sellers like retail stores, online sellers and brokers typically come from commercial breeding operations known as “puppy mills” that are designed to prioritize profit over the well-being of the animals. In these operations, the dogs are bred repeatedly, having litter after litter, and they suffer from inadequate care, frequently resulting in disease, behavioral issues and even death. This not only harms the animals who are subjected to these cruel conditions, it also harms consumers who are too often misled to believe they are purchasing a healthy puppy, only to end up with more veterinary bills due to health issues. We are grateful to you for your leadership to end the puppy mill pipeline in Colorado. Thank you again for your support and leadership on this vital legislation and for being a champion of protecting Colorado consumers and our pets.
