Continue to Support and Increase the Companion Animal Capital Fund
Dear Governor Hochul,
In 2018, New York State established a ground-breaking, multimillion-dollar Companion Animal Capital Fund in the state’s enacted budget. Since that time, the Executive Chamber and Legislature have provided $48 million to help shelters across the state with much-needed structural repairs and improvements; without it, many could not continue their lifesaving work.
As a New Yorker, I am writing to express my thanks to you for advancing this important funding year after year and voice my strong support for protecting and increasing it, especially as these groups work to comply with the upcoming Companion Animal Care Standards Act, which goes into effect in December 2025.
Please ensure that New York’s many local animal shelters and rescue organizations remain properly funded so they may continue to serve their communities, provide safety net services and reduce animal homelessness.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Please Establish Annual State Funding for Animal Shelters
Dear Governor,
As your constituent, I am writing to ask you to support our animal shelters by including funding in your state budget next year to provide grants to municipal shelters across the state. An annual capital fund earmarked for shelters will improve the lives of people and animals, allow shelters to make much-needed structural repairs and improvements and continue their lifesaving work.
Please ensure that our state’s many local animal shelters are properly funded so they may continue to serve their communities by reducing animal homelessness and keeping pets and families together.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
