Protect Wild Horses and Burros in the Final Appropriations Bill

Dear Legislator,
As your constituent and a supporter of animal welfare, I’d like to thank you for your leadership in securing important protections for wild horses and burros in the House FY2020 Interior Appropriations bill. I support robust funding and the inclusion of language directing the Bureau of Land Management toward a more humane and sustainable path forward for managing our nation’s wild horses and burros. Thank you for playing a role in this unprecedented and historic proposal endorsed by groups representing diverse interests in animal welfare, wild horse advocacy, conservation, range management, and public lands. The Senate included a similar provision that supports a more humane management strategy for wild horses and burros with an additional $35 million in funding. To best support our nation’s wild horses and burros, I urge you to ensure that the bill allocates at least $35 million to fully implement sustainable management as well as includes language that prohibits the U.S. Forest Service from killing healthy horses and burros or selling them for slaughter. I strongly support providing wild horses and burros on Forest Service lands the same legal protections currently in place for wild herds on lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Thank you for your work to protect wild horses and burros.

Protect Wild Horses and Burros in the Final Appropriations Bill

Dear Legislator,
As your constituent and a supporter of animal welfare, I urge you to support important protections for wild horses and burros in the final FY2020 Appropriations bill. I support robust funding and the inclusion of language in the final bill requiring the Bureau of Land Management to manage wild horses and burros more humanely and sustainably. I urge you to express your support for this unprecedented and historic proposal supported by groups representing diverse interests in animal welfare, wild horse advocacy, conservation, range management and public lands. The proposal would enable an effective, real-world, and more humane strategy to balance wild horse and burro populations over the next decade without using lethal means for population management. The House and Senate Interior Appropriations bills included additional funds for such a program. To best support our nation’s wild horses and burros, I urge you to support increased funding of at least $35 million to fully implement sustainable management as well as include language that prohibits the U.S. Forest Service from killing healthy horses and burros or selling them for slaughter. I strongly support providing wild horses and burros on Forest Service lands the same legal protections currently in place for wild herds on lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Thank you for supporting our nation’s wild horses and burros.
