Please support A.4157 to clarify the animal seizure law

Dear Assemblymember,
As a constituent and resident of New Jersey, I respectfully urge you to quickly bring A.4157 to an Assembly floor vote and to vote YES on this important humane bill. The need for accuracy and clarity in New Jersey’s anti-cruelty laws has taken on particular urgency with the recent statutorily-mandated dissolution of the NJSPCA and transfer of primary humane law enforcement authority to counties and municipalities. A.4157 would clarify the circumstances under which a dog, companion animal or service animal may be seized under the state’s humane tethering and proper shelter law, which was passed overwhelmingly by the state legislature and enacted in August 2017. The simple, uncontroversial, but important revisions provided for in this legislation would help ensure that seizures are executed correctly, animal cruelty is prosecuted successfully, and animal victims get the help they need. In fact, providers of humane law enforcement training in New Jersey are clamoring for this bill’s immediate enactment. The bill has already passed the Assembly Agriculture Committee. Again, as your constituent and a resident of this state, I respectfully urge you to quickly bring A.4157 to an Assembly floor vote and to vote YES.
