Please strip the King Provision from the Farm Bill

Dear Representative,
As your constituent and a supporter of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), I ask you to oppose the King Provision (Sec. 11701 in the House Farm Bill) otherwise known as the “Protect Interstate Commerce Act.” This language is an unprecedented assault on the historic power of states to enact laws that protect the health and welfare of animals and would nullify important state laws to protect animals. This measure would prevent states from enforcing their own laws regarding the production of “agricultural products”--a term so broad that it includes not only farm animals like cows and pigs, but also potentially dogs, cats and horses. As Congress debates a final Farm Bill, I hope that you will oppose the King Provision’s inclusion and oppose other dangerous measures that will endanger animal welfare protections. Thank you for your attention to this important issue.
