Protect wild horses in the FY18 Appropriations bill
Dear Senator,
As your constituent and a supporter of equine welfare, I urge you to protect our nation’s wild horses and burros in the final FY18 Appropriations bill.
It is crucial that our treasured herds are kept safe from mass killing at the hands of the agency charged with protecting them. Good management solutions, like preventing population growth with fertility control methods, exist and are the only real option for long term management of these animals.
Thank you for your attention to these important issues.
Please protect America's wild and domestic horses
Dear Legislator,
As your constituent and a supporter of equine welfare, I urge you to protect our nation’s horses in the final FY18 Appropriations bill. As a leader, you are uniquely positioned to make sure that my tax dollars are not used on horse slaughter, or the killing of federally protected wild horses and burros. The last horse slaughterhouses in the U.S. closed their doors in 2007, but if the final FY18 Appropriations bill fails to include the language blocking funding for inspections of horse slaughterhouses, this predatory industry will be resurrected on American soil.
Horse slaughter is unnecessary and cruel--it is not a form of euthanasia. Eighty percent of Americans oppose horse slaughter and 2.3 million Americans can take in horses right now. I urge you to agree to the Senate Appropriations language restricting the use of funds for horse slaughter. I also urge you to support the Senate Interior Appropriations language that protects wild horses and burros from mass killing. These icons of the American West deserve good management, not betrayal from the agency charged with caring for them.
