MO H.B. 1588 and H.B. 1657/S.B. 697—End Dog Breed Bans
ASPCA Position: Support
Sponsors: Rep. Kent Haden, Rep. Ron Hicks, Senator Elaine Gannon

Update—May, 13, 2022: Missouri’s 2022 legislative session has come to an end. Throughout the last few months, the state bill to End Dog Breed Bans advanced through committees in the Missouri House of Representatives. Unfortunately, the Legislature adjourned before this bill could receive the final votes it needed to become law. With your continued dedication, we are optimistic that 2023 will be the year we end dog breed bans in Missouri once and for all.

Please stay tuned for future engagement opportunities and thank you for your dedication to animals!

There is no evidence that breed-specific laws make communities safer for people or companion animals. Furthermore, breed-specific laws are difficult to enforce and burdensome for animal shelters, which may be forced to euthanize normal, well-behaved dogs who could have been beloved pets.
