Florida: Shut Down the Cruel Puppy Mill Pipeline!

FL H.B. 1033/S.B. 1478—End the Retail Sale of Dogs
ASPCA Position: Support
Sponsors: Rep. Sam Killebrew, Senator Clay Yarborough

Update—March 8, 2024: Florida's 2024 legislative session ended before this bill could receive the votes it needed to become law. During future sessions, we will continue working to shut down Florida's puppy mill pipeline. Thank you for using your voice to protect dogs!

This bill would have ended the flow of cruelly bred puppies into Florida’s pet stores. There’s no state law in place to prevent pet shops in Florida from selling puppies who have been trucked in from out-of-state puppy mills. Even though more than 80 Florida communities have passed laws aimed at ending this practice, thousands of cruelly bred puppies are sold in pet stores each year across the Sunshine State.

You can continue to fight puppy mill cruelty in and beyond Florida. Become a member of our Puppy Mill Action Team to receive alerts, get the latest news, and find out how YOU can help end the puppy mill industry.
