Ohio, Puppy Mill Puppies Are Counting On You!
Update—November 9, 2016: Now that Election Day has passed, the Ohio House could vote on this bill at any time. We urgently need your help to stop this bill from passing the Legislature, so please act now. See action steps below.
In 2012 Governor Kasich proudly signed S.B. 130, a bill that established puppy mill regulations in the state of Ohio, into law. However, members in the Ohio House of Representatives will be voting on a dangerous bill this month that would undermine the years of progress made for puppy mill dogs in the state. This bill, known as the Petland bill, would erode the past accomplishments of the Ohio Legislature and Governor Kasich in regulating the cruel commercial dog breeding industry.
Two Ohio municipalities, Toledo and Grove City, have prohibited the sale of puppy mill puppies in pet stores. But if this bill passes, these critical bans will be abolished and other cities will be prevented from enacting similar legislation in the future. These retail sales bans help reduce the demand for puppy mill dogs in Ohio.
The dogs need you now! Your voice has to power to stop this bill—even just a few minutes of your time can make a huge difference. This legislation has already passed the Ohio State Senate. We urgently need your help to stop it from passing the Ohio House.
